Good practices

Are you working on an online shop and planning to start selling online soon?

We have prepared a helpful list of best practices for you to ensure that your shop is 100% ready for its first customers. Let's get started.

Remember https://

When choosing an e-shop, internet users are guided not only by its offer, but also by trust in the brand and its approach to security. This is why they it is important that your online shop is equipped with an SSL/TLS certificate, which is a guarantee for customers that their personal and transactional data will be properly protected.

Gemius' 2020 survey of people who do not yet shop online shows that payment security is precisely what could encourage them to do so.

Inform the payment provider

Poles are doing more and more of their daily business over the Internet, while learning more and more about their rights and safety online. They approach online shopping with greater awareness and vigilance. They check the seller before they make their first purchase. This is why it is so important that you prominently display all the information that will make your business credible in the eyes of a potential customer.

One of these is information about the payment operator that is responsible for the correct processing of your customers' transactions - you are legally obliged to include this information in a clearly visible place. You can also add a short description of the payment operator as an additional confirmation of its reliability.

If you use Autopay Online Payments, you can include a note like this in your shop, for example:

Quote!

Autopay S.A. is a national payment institution supervised by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) and is authorised by the National Bank of Poland (NBP) to operate the BlueCash Payment System. It is PCI DSS certified and operates in accordance with ISO 27001. Autopay's solutions meet the requirements of industry regulators: NBP, KNF and UODO.

Show available payment methods

Mentioning the payment operator, don't forget to show your customers which payment methods they can use when shopping in your shop. The availability of your favourite payment method is one of the factors in choosing this rather than another online shop.

By choosing Autopay Online Payments, you gain access to nearly 400 forms of payment, such as BLIK, 1-click payments, Pay by link, quick transfers, card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, online instalments and recurring payments. More information .about the payment methods available on the Autopay payment gateway can be found at the link.

To give you an idea of the available payment methods, you can use the banners we have prepared for our partners:

Information on available payment methods should also be supplemented by possible modes of delivery and the estimated waiting time for delivery in each case.

A good practice in this respect is to prepare a special subpage/bookmark (e.g. Delivery and Payment), which will contain the above-mentioned information on the operator, payment methods and delivery methods. You can place a link to a subpage, e.g. in the footer.so that your customers can easily find it.

Describe the return rules

According to the applicable law (Article 27 of the Consumer Law), any customer of an online shop may withdraw from a contract concluded at a distance, without giving any reason and without incurring any costs (except for the costs specified in the Consumer Law) - within 14 days from the date of conclusion of the sale. If you wish - you can give your customers more time, the decision is yours.

However, remember to describe in detail all the return rules and place them in a prominent position on the website (you can add a special tab - Returns and complaints). If you use the company's returns form, which customers must complete and return - add the form file in this tab as wellwhich customers will be able to download and print. This will make the whole process much easier and both parties will be sure that no mistakes will be made in this regard.

Add regulations

Properly drafted terms and conditions, i.e. terms and conditions that comply with the law and contain the necessary provisions, are an essential element of any online shop. Without terms and conditions, you will not be able to activate the payment gateway and thus make effective online sales.

What should be included in the regulations? First and foremost:

  • the full and correct name of the company, its address and VAT and REGON numbers
  • e-mail address for customer contact (plus telephone number)
  • information on the payment provider, the available forms of payment, possible delivery methods and deadlines
  • discussion of returns and complaints
  • information on the right of withdrawal
  • any provisions on the guarantee terms of the purchased goods
  • information about the controller

More information about the webshop regulations can be found at the link.

Tip!

Take care of product presentation

The attractiveness of a product card has a direct impact on sales in your online shop. Therefore, remember to:

  • name the product appropriately

Instead of: jug SKU123321 → Light grey Scandinavian style jug

  • prepare a product description that simultaneously contains key phrases, appeals to the buyer's imagination and demonstrates the benefits of the purchase

If you sell products from other manufacturers - do not copy their descriptions, as Google may mark such a description as duplicated content and your domain will struggle to rank well.

  • add attractive product images that reflect the real appearance of the product

When buying online, the customer cannot touch the product, which is why it is important that the images give them as close an idea as possible of the true quality and appearance of the product. More and more e-tailers are choosing to include short product videos. If you are also considering this, make sure that they do not overload your website, as loading time is one of the very important factors influencing the evaluation of your website, both by customers and by Google.

  • include reviews and ratings from other customers
  • place the "Add to cart" button in a prominent position (preferably in front of the scrolling line of the page, i.e. above the fold) - also ensure that the colour of the button contrasts with the background

Other information on the product card depends on the type of product you sell. If you sell clothing or footwear, remember to include a size chart; if the price of a product depends on its parameters - add a calculator to quickly calculate it.

Make it easy for your customers to contact you

Make sure your website includes an easily accessible contact form or phone number (or email address). And if you have a large enough team - add a chat on the shop pagewhich will allow your customers to quickly ask questions, dispel doubts and place orders with complete information.
